  • PCE rolls out digital radio solution for Somerset West Businesses Against Crime

Premier Communication Electronics (PCE) has won the contract to provide more than 200 radios to Somerset West Businesses Against Crime (SWBAC). The partnership provides security and community safety solutions to help reduce crime against businesses in Brean, Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Highbridge and Taunton. Members of SWBAC share information on current trends and offender photographs while intelligence is also passed on to Avon & Somerset Constabulary. The partnership uses radios to transmit and receive live communications of known or suspected offenders and their movements. These communications are also monitored on a 24/7 basis by CCTV. PCE, based in Exeter to serve the South West, has been commissioned to initiate the migration of SWBAC from its current analogue system to a partnership-wide digital solution. The first phase has already deployed at the Hankridge Farm Retail Park in Taunton to help control crime levels in the area. To complement the new system, a PC-based dispatch terminal has been installed to record and monitor all voice traffic. PCE will be working on the other four areas once the Taunton area has switched over to digital Motorola MOTOtrbo radios. Karen Langley, PCE Managing Director, said: “This is quite a complex job in that it involves multiple repeater sites and ADSL connectivity yet was executed by our highly trained engineers supplemented with their local knowledge of the surrounding areas.  This solution will ensure SWBAC has the coverage it needs and that all parties can link to the CCTV control in Bridgwater.” “The upgrade to a digital solution will give SWBAC clearer audio quality, improved security and privacy, and above all better coverage. The benefit of this particular digital solution will prevent the criminal element from scanning the analogue frequencies to listen in on the reporting of their own activities.  We look forward to seeing the improvements the solution provides to SWBAC in its fight against crime in the area.” Andy Sharman, SWBAC co-ordinator said: “Mission-critical communications are vital in helping us do the work we carry out in the community to keep it safe. With PCE, you know you are working with a reputable supplier that has delivered nothing but exceptional customer service throughout.” For more on this story, see: Western Morning News #digitalradio

  • The Emergency Services Show

Premier Communication Electronics at The Emergency Services Show 21 – 22 September NEC Birmingham. Emergency Services or Blue Light vehicles do not always fit a “standard” mould, often requiring a bespoke installation solution. When a vehicle attends a scene, it requires blue lights and a siren to reach its destination quickly, and a radio as a primary form of communication. These emergency features often need to be installed covertly to enable the vehicle to be used for private use, out of working hours. South West based Premier Communication Electronics (PCE) are Home Office approved Installers and Managed Service Providers for Airwave, Mobile Data, Patient Reporting Systems and in-vehicle solutions for the Emergency Services. They install both covert and overt solutions for the Fire and Rescue, Police (including MOD) and Ambulance Services throughout the UK. PCE has been at the forefront of adopting and maintaining best practice in the vehicle installation industry using FCS1362 as its guide. They specialise in Covert & Overt installations of Lights and Sirens, Vital Signs/ePRF (ECS), Incident Data Recorders (IDR), Mobile Data Terminals (MDT), Satellite Navigation plus user defined Dispatch Systems as well as Digital Video Recording (DVR) and Vehicle/Asset tracking. Additional bespoke solutions include Intelligent Timing Circuits, Lights and Siren Control Systems and custom interfacing equipment. This bespoke service has led PCE to become National Award Winning Installers for many of the blue light services. Karen Langley, PCE CEO added: “This year’s ESS show is about the provision of high quality products and services for the benefit and safety of the general public. The Airwave service is due to be phased out from early 2017. ESMCP is the Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme, which will replace Airwave. PCE is offering consultancy and support to the emergency services and delivery partners for ESMCP throughout the planning and transition stages, with a view to providing quality installations and managed services. PCE is showcasing their premier installation services for covert lighting with 4G LTE cellular router. We are ESN ready……are you? You can register your interest with PCE at the Emergency Services Show (Stand R79). We look forward to meeting you. #emergencyservices #Tradeshow

  • Safe and Connected Farmers: Business Radio to Help Future Farming

This year’s Farm Safety Week (24th -28th July) will bring together key figures and organisations from the industry to promote one key message – farm safety is a lifestyle, not a slogan. A recent HSE report estimated that farming accounts for 15-20% of all worker fatalities with the annual injury rate 18 times higher than the national industry average, including construction! With such a poor safety record, what can farmers do to keep themselves and their workers safe? With farming in the blood of one of PCE’s board members, we understand the challenges faced by farmers. We advise that using two-way portable radios would be a step in the right direction to solving their communication hurdles, some of which include: Tractor to tractor/worker to worker communication Farmers want to stay in touch with their workers and their families without wasting time moving from one field or farm building to another. Poor or non-existent mobile reception Farms tend to be located on challenging terrain – more suited to sheep, cows and crops than mobile phone masts! Farmers want to clear communication, whatever the weather and wherever they are. Hands-free conversations Farmers want to be able to hold conversations without having to stop working. Privacy Farmers would rather other farms, taxi firms, etc. could not hear their conversations. Lone worker health & safety Farmers want the reassurance that if they or one of their workers suffers an injury, they will be able to call for help, or that their lack of response will trigger an alert. There is a full range of two-way portable radio solutions for farms that can solve all, or some of these problems. An experienced, quality radio solutions provider, like PCE, will give farmers professional advice for free, so they can make an informed choice of the options available. The advice would be based on a survey of your farmland and an understanding of your farm’s needs. Every farm is different so there isn’t a one product or price fits all solution. Let’s face facts, two-way radios won’t always prevent accidents but they will offer family and fellow farm workers piece of mind when out on the farm estate. Raising an alert and summoning help in an emergency could prevent a bad situation getting worse! • PCE selected to provide digital radio solution to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary

Premier Communication Electronics (PCE) has designed, provided and installed a new robust digital radio solution for the Cornish Seal Sanctuary ahead of the busy holiday season. The Cornish Seal Sanctuary, which is part of the Merlin Entertainments Group, was already an established user of two-way radios, but was seeking an upgraded solution that could cope with harsh working environments. The radios are in use by the staff for up to 10 hours every day in cold and wet conditions so a robust solution was needed to avoid constant repairs or the risk of continual downtime. PCE’s National Account Manager Stephen Smith said: “The Cornish Seal Sanctuary wanted to utilise their existing infrastructure and the portable radios they already used. We suggested integrating an additional Hytera digital solution to gain the coverage they needed in what is a very hilly site. The Hytera solution is very robust and could cope with regular exposure to both salt and fresh water.” PCE engineers carried out an audit of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary’s legacy equipment to ascertain what could be re-used and fully tested the new portable radios to ensure the Gweek-based popular tourist attraction was completely satisfied with the solution and the coverage it would receive. The entire system was also tailored for use through the PA system so the staff could use their radio handsets to speak to large crowds during the feeding and display sessions. One secure channel is used for staff communication and another for the PA system. The second channel can also be used to broadcast emergency messages to visitors. Mr Smith added: “The Cornish Seal Sanctuary provides a hugely successful environment to view seals, sea lions, otters, penguins and other aquatic mammals. This radio solution provides the instant communications that is required for the Sanctuary’s staff to carry out their day to day roles and to communicate effectively with the public.” Trevor Broome, General Manager at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, said: “The solution implemented by PCE has been first class on both a technical and commercial basis. The new Hytera radio has proved to be extremely reliable with clearer audio and we have seen an immediate reduction in downtime and repair costs.” #digitalradio #twowayradio

  • Use two-way radios to stay in touch during festival season

The British summer. Festival season. Seas of swirling people, vast fields packed with tents, long hikes to the loos and multiple bands on multiple stages. A logistics exercise requiring coordination and efficiency, and that’s just for the audience! Vital communications for festival organisers If you’re running a festival, security and first aid teams require reliable communications to be able to respond to incidents promptly, while stewards and stage hands need to be able to keep operations running smoothly, whether handling audience members or bands and their support staff. Given the area over which some festivals can sprawl, unlicensed radios or walkie talkies, may not cut it, and the security of private frequency with designated channels for different teams reducing confusion, interference and unnecessary chatter is likely to be of great help. For larger festivals, a base operator with dispatcher software coordinating GPS tracked radios might not sound overly extravagant! Hire options available Of course, two-way radios needn’t be purchased to provide their benefit, with many organisations choosing to hire radios for the short period needed, reducing storage space required between events and could prove cost effective. Not just for festival organisers… So, what if you’re not running the festival? You’ve got your tickets, you’ve got your friends, you’ve got your tent, and you’ve got a list of must-see bands you absolutely cannot afford to miss. Unfortunately, it may be that your friends would rather go and see another band while you’re watching your favourite, and once you split up in that ocean of humanity, you’ll be lucky to find each other again without some serious planning. Once again, two-way radios can be your friend. Let friends know that you’re running late meeting them at the appointed location meeting place because the queue for the portaloos was longer than expected, call ahead to take food orders, or just check in to see where they are at the moment. It’s likely that secure conversations and great range will be less critical to you than the organisers, so licence-free radios are likely to suffice, but for that extra bit of range, licensed radios needn’t break the bank, and can prove useful in plenty of other scenarios where you and your friends want to communicate over distance. If you need advice on radio communication for your festival this year, or in the future years, please contact our team. #businessradio #Events #radiohire #twowayradio
