  • PCE purchases new premises to accommodate expansion

Premier Communication Electronics (PCE) has purchased new premises in Exeter to accommodate its economic trend-bucking business growth. The new much larger site in Bittern Road is a short journey from the two-way radio and in-vehicle communications specialist’s current premises in Osprey Road, also on the Sowton Industrial Estate. Karen Langley, PCE’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We have simply outgrown our current premises and need more space to be able to accommodate the increasing amount of work we are taking on, which is pleasing considering the UK’s current economic climate. Our new site offers us office, showroom and workshop accommodation while still remaining in the locality where our customers are used to finding us.” Currently known as Almond House, the 0.8 acre site will be renamed Premier House and will undergo a full refurbishment programme, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2013. PCE will continue to trade in Osprey Road until Christmas when its current premises will become available to let. For more information on leasing the Osprey Road premises, which consists of showroom, office, workshop space and parking, from 2014, please contact PCE on 01392 445040. #Industrynews

  • PCE welcomes first female engineering apprentice

Premier Communications Electronics (PCE) has welcomed their first female installation engineer apprentice in the company’s 42-year history. Libby Daymond, age 17, is currently studying a NVQ Level 2-3 Electrical Engineering and Maintenance course at South Devon College. Libby spends one day at week at college and the rest of her working week getting hands-on experience at PCE, supporting the team of engineers with installation projects for the blue and amber light sectors. “My favourite subjects at school were maths and physics so when I saw the role at PCE advertised I thought it was too good to be true. I love how broad the role is; one minute I’m learning how to destall a tracking device and the next heading out to a fault call for the emergency services. I never wanted to work behind a desk, so this is perfect for me”. PCE is committed to investing in local young people and provide career opportunities in engineering. PCE started providing training and support for apprentices 15 years ago but this is the first time a female has applied for the position. Karen Langley, PCEs Chief Executive is thrilled to have a female apprentice on the team. She hopes to encourage more female engineers to apply in the future and is keen to address the gender imbalance in the industry: “I completely understand the pressures and concerns of females entering this industry and I really want to break the stereotypes. With just 11%* of the engineering workforce being female, I want to show Libby and other budding female engineers that tech can be an exciting, purposeful and even welcoming industry for women”. Since starting at PCE, Libby wants to learn as much as possible and has high aspirations for her career: “I’ve been welcomed into the team and have had nothing but encouragement from my colleagues. I’m excited to stay with PCE to gain knowledge and experience in different job roles. In the long-term, I’d like to travel with my job, and possibly work for Formula One. My role model is Sunita Williams, a flight engineer. She is an inspiration; fearless, determined and shows the sky’s the limit!” #Apprenticeships

  • PCE smash fundraising target

On Saturday 12th October 2019, six employees from PCE took part in the Royal Marines Commando Challenge raising vital funds for two Devon-based charities, The Royal Marines Charity and the Devon Air Ambulance Trust. Team PCE were tasked with raising £350 but exceeded their target by 64%, raising £575. The team took part in the gruelling 10km ‘Courage’ course on Woodbury Common near Lympstone in Devon, which involved a number of obstacles normally reserved for Royal Marine Commando trainees. These included tunnels, pipes, wading pools and an underwater culvert (the infamous Sheep Dip) – all while getting extremely wet and muddy! Thanks to everyone who supported the team.

Premier Communication Electronics (PCE) has been shortlisted for two national industry awards. For the sixth year running, the Exeter-based radio and mobile communications specialist has been named as one of three finalists in the installers’ category of the Federation of Communication Services’ 2013 FCS Industry Awards. In addition, PCE has been shortlisted for the Apprentice of the Year Award on the first year of entering this category. • Want to improve productivity in 2015?

For most business owners this would a daft question. I mean, who wouldn’t? The trick is working out how to achieve that goal and we believe two-way radio would be an excellent starting point. Portable two-way radio, be it digital or analogue, UHF or VHF, will help you and your colleagues stay in touch with other members of staff. If you want to ask a colleague a question and they are out on site, on the other side of the warehouse, in another area of the campus or hotel, etc, you can immediately get hold of them. You do not have to worry about whether they have a mobile signal or if their phone is switched to silent mode. Two-way radio is a robust and reliable form of business communication designed specifically for mobile employees. It is also an excellent way of ensuring supporting your duty of care to lone working staff with an inbuilt alarm or man down feature. This form of communication will speed up your business processes and will ensure decisions are made more swiftly. Better still, two-way radios allow your staff to contribute to conversations while carrying on with their work negating the need for them to return to their desks. Productivity is therefore improved and, hopefully, you will see an increase in your turnover too. Two-way radio solutions are ideal for property and facilities management staff, the service industry and people working in rough terrain environments where their time at a desk, if indeed they have one, is very limited.
