Premier Communication Electronics (PCE) has won the contract to provide more than 200 radios to Somerset West Businesses Against Crime (SWBAC).
The partnership provides security and community safety solutions to help reduce crime against businesses in Brean, Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Highbridge and Taunton.
Members of SWBAC share information on current trends and offender photographs while intelligence is also passed on to Avon & Somerset Constabulary. The partnership uses radios to transmit and receive live communications of known or suspected offenders and their movements. These communications are also monitored on a 24/7 basis by CCTV.
PCE, based in Exeter to serve the South West, has been commissioned to initiate the migration of SWBAC from its current analogue system to a partnership-wide digital solution.
The first phase has already deployed at the Hankridge Farm Retail Park in Taunton to help control crime levels in the area. To complement the new system, a PC-based dispatch terminal has been installed to record and monitor all voice traffic.
PCE will be working on the other four areas once the Taunton area has switched over to digital Motorola MOTOtrbo radios.

This solution will ensure SWBAC has the coverage it needs and that all parties can link to the CCTV control in Bridgwater.”

The benefit of this particular digital solution will prevent the criminal element from scanning the analogue frequencies to listen in on the reporting of their own activities.
